Services

Pôle revues Grand Ouest brings together engineers working in various services in the humanities and social sciences editing field in Brittany and the Pays de la Loire region (see here for more details about our team, partners and supporters). Our specialist team has around 15 experts who work together to pool their skills, methods and tools to provide journals with customized services.

One of its missions is to promote open science to key figures in academic and scientific editing at the regional and national level.

A six-point service offer

Pôle revues Grand Ouest includes Pergola (a journal incubator), and the provision of information and graduated support to editorial teams that is adapted to their specific requirements. It uses national and international criteria to improve the editorial quality of journals.

Hosting on Pergola

We provide hosting services for established or soon-to-be created journals. Membership is subject to application (see how to join Pergola, or contact us for more information).

  • Creation of a journal’s own website and its hosting on the Pergola incubator

  • Assistance with building the website’s tree structure and writing the information pages

  • Creation of a graphic charter and banner

  • Attribution of DOI numbers to articles

  • ISSN assignment requests

  • Long-term IT support and maintenance for the journal (servers, content management system (CMS), formats, etc.)

Advice and support for journals

  • Information on academic and scientific editing in the open science context

  • Advice and information on good editing practices: editorial flow, ethics framework, legal frameworks, quality criteria, evaluation, structured editing, indexing.

  • Editorial support in the different stages of creating a journal such as reflection, design and implementation of editorial bodies, evaluation methods, digital and/or print formats, economic model, and periodicity.

  • Technology watch and advice on editorial tools

  • Legal framework advice: editing contracts, Creative Commons licenses

  • Proposed templates for ethics charters, editing contracts, distribution authorisations, author guidelines…

  • Indexing support

  • Help with the application processes for national platforms (OpenEdition, Persée)

  • Help with applications for financial support

  • Testing out new editing tools in partnership with journals and research teams (the semantic text editor Stylo, the automatic translation tool OPTIMICE)

Training courses and seminars

  • Tailored training programs (Métopes editorial chain, the electronic publishing software Lodel (a content management system, CMS), tools for editorial flow, indexing…)

  • Organisation of the Science ouverte (open science) seminar series, a space for exchanges, discussions, and experience sharing between journal teams.
